The Importance of Medical Research

Reseach Results determine how we treat and manage spinal cord injuries and it eventually affects functional outcome.

It was therefore not surprising that the importance of Medical Research has been highlighted by many speakers at the last SASCA Congress.

There are many aspects of spinal cord injury that has not been properly researched.

Get involved in spinal cord injury research. Some aspects of spinal cord injury that require in-depth research are:

  • autonomic dysreflexia
  • spinal shock
  • heterotopic ossification
  • early management of spasticity
  • neuropathic pain
  • morbidity and mortality following spinal cord injury in South Africa
  • life expectancy of the spinal cord injured in South Africa
  • pressure sores - morbidity in South Africa
  • early decompression operation - neurological outcome.
